Under the Calmbirth® philosophy, pregnancy, labour and birth are regarded as normal life events which can be effectively managed by a woman who has confidence in her body's innate ability.

Commonly held beliefs about childbirth are frequently anecdotal, and focus upon the premise that it is an unavoidably painful experience. The fear and apprehension that this belief creates lead to a physiological response that is fraught with tension, fatigue and pain.

In contrast, a woman who expects the birth to be a positive experience and empowers her body and mind to function as it was intended will be able to work with the process, rather than resist it.

The Calmbirth® model complements all birthing choices and is not an alternative option. It is beneficial not only for first time parents but also for couples who have had previous natural or caesarean births.

What is Calmbirth®?

Calmbirth® is a practical childbirth preparation programme, developed to educate pregnant couples and provide them with the knowledge and tools for a positive birth.

What does Calmbirth® teach me?

During our Calmbirth® classes, pregnant couples learn:

  • How their physiological response can influence the birthing process

  • Positive beliefs and attitudes, and how they can affect the birth experience

  • How to access your subconscious mind and its inner resources during pregnancy, labour and birth to manage fear, anxiety and tension

  • Practical relaxation, visualisation and breathing techniques to utilise during labour, birth and beyond

  • The structure of a woman's body, its role in childbirth and to how to work with the process of labour

  • The importance of bonding with your baby and how this affects your baby's future

At what stage of my pregnancy should I start Calmbirth®?

Ideally anywhere from 20-35 weeks, but you can also have a very successful outcome right up to 38 weeks. Starting the course earlier will give you greater opportunity apply the skills and knowledge attained from the course, connect with your baby and experience the benefits of relaxation.

What else is included?

As part of your Calmbirth® education, you will be provided with reading materials and mp3 files that allow you to continue your practice at home.
